Margaret Reager-Tanner

Margaret Reager-Tanner, age 78, of Front Royal passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Heritage Hall Healthcare Center.

A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home in Front Royal. The Reverend Dr. R. Mark Jordon will officiate. Interment will be private.

Mrs. Reager-Tanner was born in Warren County on May 1, 1931, a daughter of the late Charles Thomas Reager and Viola Virginia Wines. She graduated from Warren County High School in 1951 and attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. She was a Sunday school teacher at Rivermont Baptist Church, where she was a member. She worked at the Aileen Plant in Flint Hill for 10 years. Upon moving from Front Royal in 1978, she lived in the Tidewater area for 25 years. She managed the Ladies and Children’s Shelter at the Norfolk Union Mission Homeless Shelter. The mission was clear, that of serving Christ. She also worked part time at Old Dominion University and the Eastern Virginia Medical School. She always wanted to learn and took many college courses online and at the colleges. She attended Tidewater Community College, University of Virginia and Old Dominion University. In 2005, she returned to Northern Virginia residing in Brighton Gardens Assisted Living of Arlington and Heritage Hall.

Ms. Reager-Tanner is survived by her sister, Lucy Mae Reager Hale and husband John of San Antonio, Texas; her nephew, Stephen “Steve” Allen Lake of Leesburg; her 2 nieces, Diana Lynn Lake of Gainesville and Carol Reager Hale Jacobs of San Antonio, Texas; and 3 great nieces and 2 great nephews.

In addition to her parents, Margaret, was preceded in death by her husband of 10 years Remus “Bud” Tanner in 1980; her companion of over 20 years, Paul V. Case; and her sisters, Betty Lou Reager Lake and Anna Louise Reager.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 14 W. 1st Street, Front Royal, VA 22630
