Biography

Geneva Kaplan Thompson, age 87, of Front Royal, died on Friday, January 29, 2010 at Loving Arms Assisted Living Facility in Front Royal.

A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home with Rabbi Jonathan Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester.

Mrs. Thompson was born November 6, 1922 in Front Royal at the U. S. Army Remount Depot where her father served in the U. S. Calvary. The Remount Depot is now the Smithsonian’s Conservation and Research Center. She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Sarah Rome Kaplan. She graduated from Warren County High School in 1940. Geneva worked for local law offices before moving to Washington, DC during the war. In Washington she was employed at the National Archives and at the Public Defenders Agency. After leaving the Public Defenders Agency, Mrs. Thompson worked as an administrative assistant for different private Washington law firms. After retirement she and her husband returned to Front Royal in 1978. Geneva was an active volunteer with the election polls, American Cancer Society, AARP Board of Directors, Humane Society of Warren County and Friends of Samuel’s Public Library. She was a lifetime senior member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Giles B. Cook Post 53.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Jones of Waldorf, MD; her granddaughters, Deborah Ambill and husband Glenn, and Brenda Reggettz and husband Joseph; her six great-grandchildren, Steven Ambill, Diana Ambill, Andrew Reggettz, Natalie Reggettz, Marissa Reggettz and Conner Reggettz all of Huntington, MD.

In addition to her parents Geneva was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Ray C. Thompson, Jr., her two brothers, James and Harry Kaplan; and her sister, Katie Kaplan.

Friends will be received on Sunday, January 31, 2010 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
